Academics

Most of CWT’s graduate students already have several years of industrial experience. In addition to engineering and business students, our GRA population has included attorneys, geographers, and individuals from other diverse career fields. CWT provides these students with a professional work environment and an opportunity to work on real problems for real companies. Each CWT graduate student has a close professional relationship with a faculty advisor.

The sudden expansion of the wireless communication field has led to a large demand for professionals with experience in wireless technologies. CWT faculty members offer many courses here at Virginia Tech that directly respond to this demand. The list of related classes contains both required and elective Engineering courses, but it also includes Communications and Economics Courses. Students from the university's Pamplin College of Business participate in inter-disciplinary courses in which they are teamed with engineers and geographers. SAWBUC, one of the center’s subgroups, also provides opportunities for them to work with telecommunications related companies.
